I’ve experienced watching The Art of Racing in the Rain there’s something about the quiet persistence in his movements that resonates deeply with me—something like the themes. It is a movie as well as book but I have watched the movie and that movie was ticking me to write a blog. As I also own a tortoise and his name is Toto. The derivation of his name is TOr-TOise. When I am spending my time at home, I always play and watch him slowly make his way across the room, I can’t help but reflect on the beautiful bond we share. He is still a baby of 8 months, but I have been watching him from the time when he was small as a coin, and that's exactly how the movie was started. The dog: Enzo who was adopted by the owner when he was a baby. So, the resemblance is high.

In the film, Enzo, the dog, shares his life’s journey through the lens of a race car driver, offering lessons on loyalty, love, and resilience. While Toto is a tortoise, he isn’t exactly a racing companion or an energetic puppy like Enzo in the movie but he is quite a strength and companionship has taught me many of the same things that Enzo imparts to his owner, Denny.

Much like Enzo’s unwavering devotion to Denny, Toto has been my silent supporter how? Because as soon as I go home, or I am laying, he must come and rest beside me. Probably I give him tortoise slow energy too but being a tortoise he is not at all slow as people say. He may not bark or race through the rain, but his calm presence and unspoken connection have a profound impact on me. The way he moves through his world with patience reminds me that life, much like a race, is full of obstacles, but it’s how we navigate them that truly matters. Whether in a storm or on smooth roads, Toto, in his quiet way, has taught me that resilience is not about speed or immediate results—it’s about taking the time to move forward, no matter the pace.

Watching The Art of Racing in the Rain brought back memories of my own journey with Toto, reminding me of the healing power animals have in our lives. Like Enzo, Toto has been a constant presence not just with me but with my parents too, one that offers comfort even during life’s toughest moments. I remember my parents screaming at me not to bring a pet to them spoiling him with love. He doesn’t offer advice or words of encouragement, but his company speaks volumes, teaching me that sometimes, the best way to cope with the world’s chaos is to remain calm and steady and to sleep like Toto making his way across the floor.

And just like Enzo, who helped Denny face his struggles with resilience, Toto has taught me the importance of enduring hardship. Whether it’s a rough day or a personal challenge, Toto’s simple existence offers a reminder that perseverance, even when life seems slow or unclear, is what truly carries us through.

So, as I watch Toto go about his slow and steady day, I’m reminded of the beauty of companionship—whether it’s a dog in a race car driver’s life or a tortoise in mine doesn't really matter what pet it is. These small creatures, so full of silent wisdom, have a unique way of teaching us the most important lessons: loyalty, love, and the strength to keep going, no matter what.

In a world that often feels like it’s racing in the rain, maybe we all need a little more of Toto’s quiet resilience to navigate through the storm and the good part is the life span of reptiles is like 70-100 years so my kids will also know how great companion toto is in the future life.
