Let me start with the statement, "Anime and cartoons are different." In India, there is no one who hasn't watched anime. I mean, anime was popular and it is possible until now. If you are reading this and still don't know what "anime" is then basically, the animation shows that originated from Japan are anime. We can easily predict the popularity of anime based on shows like Shin Chan, Doraemon, Ninja Hattori, Pokémon, Kochikame, and many other legendary shows we watched as children on Hungama Channel. Many of us don't even know that all these shows were actually anime.
Kids like me from the 2000's who didn't have any option of entertainment except television, these shows helped me to deal from the stress of school and tuitions. Anime is not limited to Doraemon and Pokémon. There are ocean of anime categories from Movies to Web-Series along with various genre. I am a fan of anime too. Death-note, Naruto and Tokyo Revengers are my favorites. Lets get down on the topic of How does it feel to watch anime in India? Along side discussing on the topic of - Anime shows airing channels like Disney XD, Cartoon Network and Hungama are shifting towards shows like Motu and Patlu, Bheem and other non-worth airing cartoons?
1. Mature Content
Old uncles from our community always had the ideology of - "Cartoons are only meant for kids". If that Uncle comes across you, share anime series on his phone and tell him to watch because anime is a slap for the people who think cartoons are only meant to be watched by kids. If we keep anime and cartoons side by side and compare them (actually it isn't worth comparing yet, we're doing that).
“If you don’t take risks, you can’t create a future!” — Monkey D. Luffy
- Indian Cartoons : Always have repeated storyline, Dumb characters. No innovations. Hardly put efforts to make it. No creativity - Raju from Chotta Bheem becomes Mighty Raju and new cartoon starts. Same power source ideas like - Motu eats samosa and becomes powerful Similarly, Bheem eats ladoo.
- Anime- Awesome unique storyline, Influential characters. Shows for all age groups with vast number of genre for everyone. No target audience of particular age group.
2. Propaganda against kids
“Destiny. Fate. Dreams. These unstoppable ideas are held deep in the heart of man. As long as there are people who seek freedom in this life, these things shall not vanish from the Earth.” — Gold D. Rodger
3. Monopoly
WHEN PEOPLE GET HURT, THEY LEARN TO HATE… WHEN PEOPLE HURT OTHERS, THEY BECOME HATED AND RACKED WITH GUILT. BUT KNOWING THAT PAIN ALLOWS PEOPLE TO BE KIND. PAIN ALLOWS PEOPLE TO GROW… AND HOW YOU GROW IS UP TO YOU.” – JIRAIYA
